Aqua Safaris is truly a full-service SCUBA center, offering complete lines of top-quality equipment, diving and safety instruction, air and Nitrox fills, exotic dive travel adventures and Monterey Bay excursions. We believe that doing it right will earn your business again and again.

Our SCUBA equipment experts are all divers with expertise in many diving specialties including:

We not only provide the equipment, we help you set it up, adjust it to fit and provide special training in its use as needed! We sell equipment from dozens of manufacturers (see on-line store manufacturers listing). Many manufacturers do not allow on-line sales of their products, and our on-line product listings are a fraction of what we sell in our retail store.
We service everything we sell plus most equipment made by other manufacturers as well. Your regulator should be serviced annually. Tanks must be visually inspected annually and hydrostatically tested every five years.
Doug McDonald is Aqua Safaris’ lead equipment technician. He was first certified in 1970 and became a NAUI Instructor in 1974 and a YMCA Instructor in 1975. He has diving experience in warm water from Australia to the Caribbean and in cold water in places such as Alaska, British Columbia, Ireland and California. Doug is a NAUI Instructor Trainer, a PSI-Certified Tank Inspector, A CPR/First Aid Instructor, and has logged over 2000 dives.

Doug has been working on regulators since 1976 and was the Diving Safety Officer at the University of California at Santa Cruz for 13 years. Doug undergoes periodic recertification from all of the major regulator manufacturers at multi-day Factor Repair Seminars.

Since retiring from UCSC, Doug has continued to rebuild regulators at Aqua Safaris. He is also factory-certified to perform oxygen-cleaning of regulators and to repair BCs, computers, spearguns and tanks.
Regulators

Normal turn-around for regulator service is two weeks; slightly longer during the summer. If you need faster service, we may be able to accommodate you for a $25 rush fee. Typical annual service includes:

    pre-test
    complete disassembly
    inspection of all parts
    ultrasonic cleaning
    rinsing
    blow drying with filtered air
    reassembly
    adjustment to factory specs
    final test

Parts costs vary widely among manufacturers and among models. Typical service kits include high and low pressure valve seats and dynamic O-rings. Unusual damage (cracked housing, scratched sealing surface, torn diaphragm, weak spring, etc.) may require additional parts. We will contact you for approval before doing major unusual repairs.

BCs and most other dive equipment items will be inspected for free, and we will make recommendations on repair options.
Aqua Safaris typically charters the Escapade for a two-tank dive on at least one Saturday every month. The price is $80 per diver, which includes beverages, snacks and two tanks of air. Nitrox is available when requested at the time of booking. The Escapade is a 38-foot Canaveral certified for 24 divers. She can cruise at speeds up to 20 knots for fast travel to dive sites. The safety and navigational equipment includes: GPS, radar, radio, first aid and oxygen. Dive sites are in Monterey and Carmel Bay based upon weather and ocean conditions. If the special Aqua Safaris charter doesn’t fit your schedule, we can book you onto the Escapade on other dates, and there are a number of other dive boats operating in the Monterey Bay—we can book you onto any of them. Bookings are handled by the SCUBA Center staff.
We are a PRO Platinum Diving Center, and we offer a comprehensive program of dive education services covering general dive training, specialty dive courses, tech diving equipment training, underwater photography courses, plus divemaster and instructor training. We offer certifications from several agencies. Our philosophy on training can be summed up as fun and adventurous. All of our courses are among the most comprehensive available. By the end of any class the participants are guaranteed to be competent divers. We believe that there are significant advantages to getting certified here in the Monterey Bay prior to taking that trip of your dreams. First, you will receive the best, most comprehensive training available. Second, you will be thoroughly trained in the exciting and challenging Monterey Bay environment and hence equipped to dive safely and competently almost anywhere in the world. (This is not true for many of the accelerated “resort certifications” that are offered.) Third, we offer all levels of SCUBA instruction, so as your interests and skills advance we can offer higher levels of instruction in a consistent, integrated program. Finally, as PRO Platinum Diving Center, we are always abreast of the latest training techniques and equipment technology.
