About Mount Hermon
Mount Hermon is an unincorporated community located in the mountains near Felton in Santa Cruz County. A stop on the South Coast Pacific Railroad between Alameda and Santa Cruz, Mount Hermon was originally known as Tuxedo Junction due to the hotel of that name located at the stop. In 1906, the Hotel Tuxedo was bought by what is today known as the Mount Hermon Association, Inc in order to build a retreat center. The original buildings burned down in 1921, but the Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center was immediately built to replace them. Over the years, area residents have built a couple hundred homes, a bookstore and post office around the three facilities of the conference center.
The Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center includes the Ponderosa Lodge, Redwood Camp and the main Conference Center. Although religious worship is the primary focus of the community, visitors can enjoy both Christian and non-religious events and activities at the center. In addition to youth and family camps, church retreats and religious teachings, the center has a team-building high ropes course, climbing wall, the first canopy tour in California and an outdoor science school.

Things to do in Mount Hermon
The most popular activity in Mount Hermon is the Redwood Zip-line Canopy Tour. This is the first canopy tour in California and the only zip-line through a redwood forest in the entire world. During the two-hour tour, visitors fly through the air on six zip-lines and walk along two sky bridges that are up to 150 feet above the forest floor. But this tour doesn’t just involve an adrenaline rush; two certified guides also explain the Santa Cruz redwood forests’ ecology and history.
The Mount Hermon Outdoor Science School boasts an impressive menu of experiential learning programs for elementary and middle school-aged students located on its 440-acre campus. These programs include full- and half-day fieldtrips, four- to five-day overnight trips for public schools, four- to five-day overnight trips that mix science and religion for Christian schools and options for homeschooled children.
The low and high ropes courses and canopy tours make Mount Hermon a great place for a company or school team-building retreat. Whether groups are interested in staying close to the ground, spending time 30-80 feet high or soaring through the air at 40-150 feet off the ground, the conference center will design the appropriate team-building experience.
Mount Hermon is perhaps most well-known for its religious family and youth camps, retreats and conferences. These usually involve a mixture of religious seminars and teachings, adventure activities and nature activities.
