About Davenport
With a population of about 400 people and only a handful of buildings, Davenport is an undeveloped oasis on the picturesquely rugged northern coast of Monterey Bay. After wandering through the historic town and discovering the natural wonders of the Rancho del Oso, Ano Nuevo and Wilder Ranch state parks, visitors will understand why so many artists – including Ansel Adams – have been drawn to this hidden California jewel. Whether whale watching, kite boarding, sunbathing, hiking, surfing, mountain biking or simply enjoying Davenport’s art scene, it is the perfect place to get away from it all. Spend the night at the only lodging in town – the Davenport Roadhouse – and you’ll also experience a culinary delight.

Attractions and Activities in Davenport
Davenport may be tiny, but it is the perfect place from which to explore the unique and rugged beauty of Monterey Bay’s northern coast. The most notable attractions in Davenport are St Vincent DePaul Church that was oft-photographed by Ansel Adams, two art galleries that feature works by local artists and a museum in the former Davenport Jail.
It is the natural beauty around Davenport that keeps tourists and artists coming back, however, and the best place to experience it is in Rancho del Oso, Ano Nuevo and Wilder Ranch state parks. All three of these areas offer extensive trails for hiking and mountain biking along ocean bluffs, windswept beaches and grassy terraces. The tiny Hole in the Wall and Panther beaches are wonderfully hidden spots where visitors can surf, swim, sunbathe and watch for whales.
Dining in Davenport
Davenport has four restaurants – the Davenport Roadhouse Restaurant & Inn, La Cabana Taqueria, Taqueria El Jarro and Whale City Bakery Bar & Grill. The Davenport Roadhouse has been serving the area as a restaurant, store and bed & breakfast for over 30 years. It is a local institution with a restaurant that always leaves customers satisfied.
Shopping in Davenport
